Sources: Phil Jackson doesn't want to coach Nets

Phil Jackson is not interested in becoming the next coach of the Nets, according to league sources.

A source said Jackson spoke to the Nets about their roster but told the team that he was done with coaching.

The Nets had targeted Jackson as their top choice, but are now moving on to other candidates.

The 67-year-old Jackson, who has won 11 NBA championships with the Bulls and Lakers, is currently helping the Pistons as a consultant in filling their coaching vacancy.

When the ink was dry on Nets general manager Billy King's multiyear contract extension a little more than two weeks ago, some assumed that meant the Nets weren't going to try to make a serious play for Jackson.

There were rumblings of Jackson reportedly wanting more of an executive position, too, perhaps one even dabbling in player personnel.

The Nets fired interim coach P.J. Carlesimo on Sunday, a day after they lost Game 7 of their first-round playoff series in Brooklyn to the injury-depleted Bulls. Carlesimo went 35-19 during the regular season after replacing Avery Johnson. Johnson was fired in late December after the Nets started the season 14-14.
