New York Times breaks down Heat, Thunder shot charts

If you're a basketball geek and you're looking to burn about three hours this morning, the New York Times and Michigan State geography professor Kirk Goldsberry have the toy for you.
The Times, partnered with Goldsberry, produced an interactive project that breaks down, in heat maps, shot charts for the Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder, and key players on each team.
You can see how many more three-pointers the Thunder take than the Heat (about 30 percent more), how bad Dwyane Wade has been from beyond the arc (a lowly 0.78 points per attempt), and where Shane Battier spends most of his time (three-ball, corner pocket).
The graphic can also be broken down by shot location, allowing users to see three-pointers, midrange shots and close range shots for each of the selected players.
LeBron James, Wade, Chris Bosh, Mario Chalmers, Udonis Haslem, Battier, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Serge Ibaka, Kendrick Perkins and Thabo Sefolosha are included in the analysis. Mercifully, Joel Anthony is not.
