Boxing is a family thing for Cotto
Boxing has become a true family business the last few years for Miguel Cotto.
The Puerto Rican star is set to take on Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a much-anticipated junior middleweight bout on May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
"Training is going great," Cotto said from his training camp in Orando, Fl. "I am having fun and enjoying it more than ever. I love it here and I feel at home. I have the same focus and mentality to obtain a victory as I did when camp started. [Trainer] Pedro [Diaz] is a magnificent strategist."
In addition to Diaz, Cotto has his mother in the mix, too. Cotto’s mother is the official cook for Team Cotto. "I have the same diet as always," said Cotto. "My mother is with me, so you can imagine how well I am eating."
Aside from wanting to be known as the world’s top pound-for-pound boxer, Cotto is motivated by his father, the late Miguel Cotto Sr.
"The memory of my father is the biggest motivation inmy life," said Cotto. "I feel more motivated at this point than any other in my career. I feel more motivated to beat Mayweather than I did when I was training for my first world title."
With wins over Antonio Margarito, Ricardo Mayorga and Yuri Foreman over his last three fights, Cotto (37-2) is in the midst of a great run. It’s not clear what he might be looking for if he beats Mayweather, but several industry sources have suggested another fight with Manny Pacquiao could be in the cards.
Right now, though, Cotto is only concerned with Mayweather.
