Predictions: Pacquiao vs. Mosley

Manny Pacquiao takes on Sugar Shane Mosley in a welterweight title bout Saturday night on pay-per-view. Newsday staffers weigh in with some picks:

Greg Logan: Manny Pacquiao can't afford to take Shane Mosley for granted even at the age of 39, and he's bound to get tagged a few times because of his style. But there's no way Mosley can match the volume of punches he will see from Pacquiao, and he will be shocked by the power. Pacquiao by TKO 9.

Marcus Henry: The last time we counted Shane Mosley completely out, he shocked everyone by dominating Antonio Margarito. But that was two years ago. He's had two fight since then, one a draw and the other a lopsided loss to Floyd Mayweather. Mosley has a couple of things going for him, though. He's the most powerful welterweight  Manny Pacquiao will have faced. And Pacquiao, when on the attack, leaves himself open at times. Mayweather left an opening against Mosley and almost tasted the canvas. As for Pacquiao, he's younger, quick and has proven to have a solid chin. He'll be tested early by Mosley. But you have to wonder if all the fanfare and accolades have effected his training. As great as "Pacman" has been, he's still human and he's has yet to face a fighter with the speed-power combo of Mosley. Prediction: Mosley will catch Pacquiao and stop him with a fifth-round KO.

Jose Moreno: Styles make fights. Pacquiao will land substantially more punches but Mosley’s own quick and aggressive style will give him enough windows to land his own combinations. I predict Mosley will be throwing “homerun” punches from the opening bell and one of these will finally bring Pacman down. Mosley KO’s Pacquiao in round 9.

Bobby Cassidy: It's difficult to count Mosley out. He's surprised us before and has clearly been one of the premiere fighters of this generation. He is certainly stronger than Pacquiao. But in this fight, speed will make the difference. There was a time when Mosley ranked among the fastest in boxing. Those days are gone. He looked slow and old in his loss against Floyd Mayweather Jr. At this point, he is slower and older. Both Cotto and  Margarito were stronger than Pacquiao and he handled them fine. Pacquiao's speed and volume of punches will be too much for Mosley, the great, but aging warrior. Pacquiao by TKO 10. 

Mario Gonzalez: I think this matchup is more intriguing on paper than what will actually occur in the ring. I think Mosley's age will finally catch up to him in this bout. Pacquiao is too fast, too strong and still in his prime. I have the Pacman dominating throughout, winning by way of unanimous decision.
