When it comes to college basketball rivalries in the New York tri-state area, the “Battle of the Bronx” between Fordham and Manhattan may be the best. The two will meet tonight at Draddy Gymnasium on the campus of Manhattan College.

The game will mark the 104th meeting between the two schools. Manhattan leads the series all time, 53-50. Fordham took last year’s game, 73-59, at Rose Hill Gym.

Manhattan (5-4) is led by Roslyn graduate George Beamon (16.1 pts), the only double-digit scorer for the Jaspers. Beamon had 22 points in a 68-42 win over St. Peter’s on Sunday. Beamon is also shooting a career-high 46 percent from the field.

Fordham (3-3) is a little more balanced with Chris Gaston (14.3 pts), Devon McMillan (12.5) and Branden Frazier (10.8). Gaston was key down the stretch for Fordham in a 54-53 win over Hampton on Monday night.

Making the game even more local is Fordham coach Tom Percora, a Queens native who knows everything there is to know about basketball in the New York tri-state area.
