Long Island college basketball roundup: Hofstra men cruise past North Carolina A&T
German Plotnikov had 20 points and nine rebounds and Tyler Thomas 19 points, 10 rebounds and four assists as Hofstra had little trouble in an 81-49 victory over North Carolina A&T on Saturday in Greensboro.
Darlinstone Dubar scored eight of his 13 points during a 14-0 run by the Pride early in the first half. Plotnikov hit a pair of three-pointers during that surge, which ended with a Dubar trey to give Hofstra a 16-2 lead with 11:01 left in the first half.
The Pride (15-10, 8-4 Coastal Athletic Association) led 34-15 at the break.
The Aggies (7-18, 5-7) got the deficit down to 13 (36-23) on Jalal McKie’s three-pointer with 18:27 left in the game.
But Jacco Fritz, who had 13 points, hit a pair of jumpers to touch off an 8-1 run for a 44-24 lead with 16:46 to go.
Campbell 95, Stony Brook 77: Anthony Dell’Orso scored seven of his 24 points during a 26-5 first-half run in Buies Creek, North Carolina.
The Seawolves (13-12, 6-6 CAA) led 25-15 on Keenan Fitzmorris’ traditional three-point play with 11:55 left in the first half.
But Campbell’s Jasin Sinani hit a three-pointer to trigger the 26-5 run, which ended on Dell’Orso’ three pointer with 3:43 left in the half, giving the Camels (12-13, 6-6) a 41-30 lead. Sinani had eight of his 17 points in the big run.
SBU trailed 52-38 at halftime, then fell behind by 23 before rallying. Six different Seawolves scored in a 13-2 spurt that lowered the deficit to 12 points (79-67) with 6:05 to go.
But Omar Harris had five points in a 7-2 run to get the lead back to 17 at 86-69 with 4:34 to go.
Aaron Clarke and Dean Noll had 16 points each to lead SBU, which was outscored in the paint, 54-22.
