The Stony Brook women struggled to score last season.

Stony Brook coach Beth O’Boyle has taken steps to remedy that situation as she announced the signings of guards Chikilra Goodman, Teasha Harris and Latasia Ward.

Goodman, a 5-8 point guard, spent two years a Paris Junior College (Texas). Goodman led the nation in scoring (36.6) as a senior at Bodine High School in Philadelphia.

“Chikilra can score in a variety of ways,” O’Boyle said. “She is also a tough, physical player that is a great defender.”

Harris comes to Stony Brook from Kirkwood CC in Iowa. She earned first-team All-Region honors last year. Harris averaged 15 points per game her senior year at Bloomington Senior High School in Illinois.

Ward played for ASA JC in Brooklyn the last two years and became the program’s all-time leading scorer. She averaged 11.7 points and 6.2 rebounds in two years at ASA. Ward played for Wings Academy in the Bronx, leading the team to the PSAL Class A championship game.

Goodman, Harris and Ward will join a list of recruits that includes forwards Brittany Snow, Alyssa Coiro and guard Kim Hanlon.

The new blood should help Stony Brook quickly forget a tough 4-26 campaign it endured last season.
