RICHMOND, Va. — Kyle Wickersham threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score, Zach Palmer-Smith added two touchdown runs and Richmond beat Charleston Southern 38-0 on Saturday for its first victory of the season.

Wickersham's 1-yard touchdown run capped a 10-play drive with 1:54 left in the first quarter to give Richmond a 7-0 lead.

Palmer-Smith had a 6-yard scoring run early in the second quarter and Jabril Hayes intercepted a Zolten Osborne pass and returned it 76 yards for a touchdown and a 21-0 advantage at halftime. The Spiders defense held Charleston Southern to 69 total yards in the first half.

Wickersham connected with Nick DeGennaro for a 39-yard touchdown and a 28-0 lead on Richmond's second possession of the third quarter. Palmer-Smith ended a 10-play drive with a 1-yard touchdown run late in the period to make it 35-0.

Richmond's longest drive of the game — 13 plays — ended with Sean O'Haire's 31-yard field goal with 4:03 left to play.

Wickersham completed 10 of 12 passes for 128 yards for the Spiders (1-2). Palmer-Smith totaled 80 yards on 21 carries.

Osborne finished with 81 yards on 10-for-19 passing with two interceptions for the Buccaneers (1-2), who gained only 131 yards on offense.
