Longhorns rally

David Ash threw three touchdown passes to Jaxon Shipley and Joe Bergeron scored on a 2-yard run with 29 seconds left to lift No. 12 Texas to a 41-36 win at Oklahoma State last night. Ash directed the Longhorns (4-0) on a 75-yard scoring drive after the Cowboys (2-2) had taken the lead on Quinn Sharp's 23-yard field goal with 2:34 to play.

LSU sluggish

Zach Mettenberger connected with Odell Beckham Jr. five times for 128 yards and touchdowns of 53 and 27 yards as host No. 3 LSU, trailing 9-7 in the second quarter, scored the next 24 points on the way to a 38-22 victory.

Penn State on top again

Matt McGloin threw for 211 yards and a touchdown and ran for two more scores to lead Penn State to a 35-7 win over host Illinois. Sophomore running back Zach Zwinak added 101 yards and two touchdowns for Penn State (3-2). The Nittany Lions forced three turnovers.

It gets worse for Hogs

Freshman Johnny Manziel threw for a school-record 453 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score to lead host Texas A&M over Arkansas, 58-10.

Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long on Wednesday gave coach John L. Smith a tepid vote of confidence for the rest of this season. The Razorbacks were ranked No. 8 to begin the season but have lost to Louisiana-Monroe, Rutgers and were routed by Alabama and now Texas A&M.

Smith, formerly head coach at Michigan State and Louisville, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection Sept. 6, citing some $25.7 million in debt.

Cards slog it out

No. 19 Louisville (5-0) trailed 17-6 midway through the second quarter, but Senorise Perry scored touchdowns of 1 and 14 yards as the Cardinals rallied to beat host Southern Miss, 21-17, in a downpour.-- AP
