Hofstra will introduce former University of Connecticut athletic director Jeff Hathaway as the university's new AD Tuesday, a person with knowledge of the hiring confirmed Monday night. Hofstra has scheduled an 11 a.m. news conference on campus.

Hathaway, 52, replaces Jack Hayes, who took a similar position at Brown University last month. Danny McCabe, who has been serving on an interim basis, is expected to remain as the executive associate director of athletics.

Hathaway was UConn's AD from June 2003 until his departure in August 2011 in what the school termed a retirement. Athletics prospered during most of Hathaway's tenure, with the men's and women's basketball teams winning NCAA titles in 2004.

More recently, the athletic department came under scrutiny by the NCAA for recruiting violations in men's basketball and declining academic scores.

Hathaway chaired the Division I men's basketball committee for five years, including the most recent NCAA Tournament.

Hathaway, a graduate of Maryland, was the executive associate director of athletics at UConn from 1990-2001. He then spent two years as Colorado State's athletic director before returning to UConn.

Hayes came to Hofstra after serving as an associate director of athletics at UConn for three years (2001-04). Hayes spent eight years as Hofstra's AD before leaving for Brown.
