Newsday's All-Long Island boys lacrosse for 2023. Here’s an update on what the 2023 All-Long Island first and second-team boys lacrosse stars have been up to on the collegiate level.

Owen Duffy, A, North Carolina (St. Anthony’s): Duffy headlined the class of 2023 as the country’s No. 1 recruit according to Inside Lacrosse, earning the title of Newsday’s Player of the Year after logging 78 points in 13 games. He leads North Carolina with 38 points — 22 goals, 16 assists — in eight games with the Tar Heels, all starts.

Duffy returned to Long Island on March 16, leading UNC to a 12-8 win over Stony Brook as the East Quogue native scored four goals with an assist on a season-high 16 shots on a season-high eight shots on goal.

Brendan Reilly, A, Amherst (Chaminade): Reilly is off to a fast start with 20 points — second-most on the team — across just six games, all starts. The former Chaminade captain is the only freshman to start every game for Amherst. He has 15 goals with five assists while scoring two goals or more in all but one game, including an impressive six-goal outing against Hamilton on March 9.

The Manhasset native had a goal and an assist in Amherst’s game on March 20 against Gettysberg, a 9-8 win, while also having four ground balls and one caused turnover.

Cal Girard, FO, Duke (Manhasset): Girard was Newsday’s Nassau Player of the Year, boasting an 82.98% faceoff percentage. He’s appeared in eight of Duke’s nine games this season, sitting second on his team with a 46.5% faceoff percentage across 43 faceoffs in addition to tallying 14 ground balls.

Gavin Creo, A, Richmond (Chaminade): The captain and team MVP of Chaminade’s lacrosse squad in 2023, Creo has appeared in all seven games for Richmond this season. He has three goals and an assist.

Peter Thomann, D/LSM, North Carolina (Calhoun): Thomann has started in all eight games for North Carolina. Thomann has eight caused turnovers with the Tar Heels, second-best on the team.

Matthew Cargiulo, M, UMass (Manhasset): Cargiulo has appeared in eight games with seven starts, scoring in his February debut off the bench against Army. He has four goals, two assists and six ground balls. Cargiulo also played all 60 minutes against No. 19 Rutgers on March 16 and had his second assist of the season on March 22 against Brown.

Liam Connor, A, Colgate (Manhasset): Connor has appeared in all nine of Colgate’s games, starting six. He is one of six Colgate players with at least 10 points — Connor has 15 — with nine goals and six assists. His .700 shot-on-goal percentage ranks first on the team among players with at least 20 shots.

Jackson Greene, M, Harvard (St. Anthony’s): Greene has started in seven of eight appearances for Harvard, logging seven points. The Crimson freshman scored two goals with an assist on March 10 in a 13-11 road win against Michigan. He has four goals on just 14 shots.

Ryan Rooney, A, Sacred Heart (Smithtown East): Rooney has appeared in nine of Sacred Heart’s 10 games, providing the Pioneers with four points which includes a goal against Fairfield on Feb. 21. He had two of his three assists against Le Moyne on Feb. 25.

Jake Spallina, M/FO, Syracuse (Mount Sinai): Spallina has appeared in nine games for Syracuse and scored his first collegiate goal against Utah on Feb. 21. The Mount Sinai alumnus won two Suffolk titles and a Long Island championship with the Mustangs. His older brother, sophomore Joey, currently leads Syracuse with 59 points.
