Long Island college sports roundup: LIU earns its first NCAA D-I women's lacrosse tournament bid
Erin Harkins tallied two goals and an assist and Rachel Weber and Jen Gaffney each added two goals to lead fourth-seeded LIU to a 10-7 win in the Northeast Conference women’s lacrosse championship over host Sacred Heart on Saturday.
Julia Trainor and Lindsey Lucia both contributed one goal and two assists. Pierson Schuchart and Ava Taylor each scored once for LIU. Mylie Norton made 10 saves.
LIU advances to its first NCAA Tournament at the Division I level.
Farmingdale 13, Maritime 10: Carly Livingston scored seven goals and had an assist to lead Farmingdale (11-8) to a Skyline Conference tournament championship over visiting Maritime (10-6).
Ashley Codispoti chipped in a goal and an assist. Giavanna Stamatelo saved 11 shots for Farmingdale.
Olivia Cassese, Molly Espey, Kailee Coppola, Jordyn Neu and Hayley Romeo all scored one goal in the win and Emily Sohm led the team with two assists.
Gabrielle Nicolosi tallied four goals and two assists for Maritime, and Jenna Lesiewicz scored three goals and Tori Gay had two goals and two assists.
Farmingdale advances to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Adelphi 21, Southern New Hampshire 10: Marielle Colalillo had three goals and three assists and Kelly-Ann McGrath added four goals to lift Adelphi (15-2) past visiting Southern New Hampshire (8-9) in the Northeast-10 Conference quarterfinals.
Adelphi will face third-seeded New Haven on Wednesday in the semifinals.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Adelphi 10, Saint Anselm 9: Eamon Hall scored four goals and Braden Donnellan added one goal and four assists to lead Adelphi (14-2) to an NE10 championship victory over visiting Saint Anselm (10-4).
Ryan Bauco had a goal and two assists and Logan Tucker, Kyle Lewis, Kyle Steinbach and Jason Rebaudo all scored once to help Adelphi advance to the NCAA Division II tournament.
BASEBALL
Hofstra 4, Stony Brook 0: Carlos Martinez hurled eight scoreless innings and struck out nine to lead Hofstra (20-27) past host Stony Brook (22-22). Steve Harrington went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and Will Kennedy went 2-for-3 with a home run, sacrifice fly and two RBIs.
