St. John's senior forward Da'Shena Stevens was selected to the 2011-12 Naismith Trophy early-season watch list, comprising the top 51 women's basketball players from around the country.

This is the third straight year Stevens has appeared on the list, first gaining recognition as a sophomore. She was one of 17 forwards and 25 seniors and on the list.

"It is an honor for Da'Shena and our program to be considered for this prestigious award," head coach Kim Barnes Arico said. "It says a lot about the caliber of player Da'Shena is and the contributions she has made so far in her career to be nationally recognized without playing a game for us this year because of her injury. We are excited to have her back on the court soon so that can help us through the regular season and beyond."

Stevens has sat out the first seven games of the season as she continues rehabbing an offseason knee injury. She's expected back sometime in December.

Last season, she jumped into the St. John's record books as the 17th St. John's women baseball player to score 1,000 points. She begins her final season at No. 11 on the SJU all-time scoring list with 1,243 points and sixth on the all-time rebounding list with 673.
