Stony Brook adds Mitchell to backcourt

With leading scorer Anthony Jackson out indefinitely, Stony Brook could use another guard.
Seawolves coach Steve Pikiell took care of that in short order Thursday as the school announced the addition of 6-3 guard Kameron Mitchell to the roster.
Mitchell, who enrolled for the spring semester, comes to Stony Brook as an accomplished scorer. Mitchell was a three-year varsity player at Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Fla., where he averaged 21.5 points, 4.8 assists and 4.5 rebounds as a senior. He finished as the school’s leader in three-pointers made with 224.
Mitchell averaged 23.3 points, 4 rebounds and 3.3 assists as a junior.
“It is great to have added an all-around great person in Kam to our roster,” Pikiell said. “He is a good student and comes from a great family, and he will fit in nicely on our roster. As a three-point shooter, he has incredible range and great accuracy. He truly has a great instinct for scoring.”
Mitchell has already begun practicing for Stony Brook.
Stony Brook (13-4, 4-0 America East) managed to get by without Jackson in a 75-48 blowout of Boston University on Tuesday.
