Stony Brook-UCLA by the numbers
By virtue of its 9-1 victory over Stony Brook in the opener of the College World Series Friday, UCLA is 6-0 and has outscored the opposition 42-10 since the regionals began.
UCLA went 5-0 in the Los Angeles Regional and Los Angeles Super Regional, outscoring Creighton, New Mexico and TCU 33-9.
UCLA sophomore righthander Adam Plutko, who started Friday against Stony Brook, won two of those games, allowing two runs, nine hits and five walks in 16 innings against Creighton and TCU. He struck out 14.
Plutko (12-3) lowered his season ERA to 2.48 by allowing a run in seven innings against Stony Brook, holding the Seawolves to five hits and two walks. Pat Cantwell homered for the only run off him.
Stony Brook starter Tyler Johnson entered Friday's game with a 12-1 record and 1.94 ERA. He was 3-0 with a 2.49 ERA in the Coral Gables Regional and Baton Rouge Super Regional. Johnson was charged with seven runs in 21/3 innings against UCLA, allowing five hits and four walks, as his season ERA rose to 2.52.
Travis Jankowski and Willie Carmona, who had gone 22-for-44 between them in Coral Gables and Baton Rouge, were 0-for-8 with three strikeouts.
