Top-ranked Stony Brook scores 20 in throttling of Delaware

The top-ranked Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team continued its roll through the early portion of its schedule, scoring 20 goals for the first time this season in a 20-8 throttling of host Delaware Tuesday night.
Kylie Ohlmiller had six goals and four assists, Courtney Murphy had five goals and two assists and Ally Kennedy filled the stat sheet with two goals, two assists, two ground balls, one caused turnover and five draw controls.
Keri McCarthy’s eight draw controls and Samantha DiSalvo’s five draw controls helped Stony Brook earn a 19-10 advantage on draws, and the increased possession time allowed Stony Brook (6-0) to outshoot Delaware 40-17.
Trailing 6-4 after a shaky start, Stony Brook recovered to score nine straight times and take a 13-6 lead.
Taryn Ohlmiller (two goals, three assists) scored once and assisted two others in the spurt, which started when McCarthy got her footing in the draw circle.
Stony Brook ended the game on a 7-0 run, capped by freshman Rebecca Kinsley’s first career goal off a feed from behind the cage by Kylie Ohlmiller.
The senior crept closer to two major records. She has 377 career points, needing 68 more to pass Maryland’s Jen Adams (445), and her 196 career assists are 29 away from breaking the record set by Northwestern’s Hannah Nielsen (224).
Murphy also inched closer to a milestone, as she now needs 20 more goals to break the career mark set by Temple’s Gail Cummings (289).
Ranked first overall in all three major polls for the third straight week, Stony Brook tests itself again at home Saturday against Towson, ranked 13th in the nation.
