What to watch for: Plenty of offense. USC’s offense is loaded with stars. Quarterback Matt Barkley, a Heisman Trophy contender, threw for 372 yards and four touchdowns last week, Penn State transfer Silas Redd rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown on just nine carries, and wide receiver Robert Woods had two touchdown catches. Fellow wide receiver Marqise Lee had 10 catches for 197 yards and a touchdown.
Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib threw for 470 yards and four touchdowns in last week’s loss. Syracuse had 33 first downs and 596 yards of total offense as its rally fell short against Northwestern.
Long Island connection: Syracuse has seven Long Islanders on its roster: junior quarterback John Kinder (Lawrence High School), freshman running back Devante McFarlane (Half Hollow Hills West), freshman kicker Ryan Norton (Garden City), junior linebacker Femi Aliyu (Baldwin), freshman guard Omari Palmer (Longwood), sophomore defensive tackle Ryan Sloan (Bellport) and jjunior defensive end Robert Welsh (St. Anthony’s. Sloan is out for the season with a lower body injury
