Aaron Kampman a happy camper again

One of the best, if least talked-about pass rushers in the NFL in recent years, is Aaron Kampman, a two-time Pro Bowl selection in 2006-07.

But when Kampman, a classic hand-in-the-dirt defensive end, was switched to outside linebacker in new defensive coordinator Dom Capers' system last year in Green Bay, he was like a fish out of water. He played stiff, wasn't the kind of instinctive rusher he used to be, and was generally a misfit before suffering a season-ending knee injury in Week 1.

Well, Kampman (pictured) doesn't have to worry about playing out of position any longer. He signed a free agent deal yesterday with the Jaguars, who will put him back at his customary position of defensive end.

Jacksonville struggled getting to quarterbacks last season, with a league-low 14 sacks, eight fewer than the next lowest team, Kansas City.

Kampman, 30, is ahead of schedule on his rehab from knee surgery, and he's expected to be ready for the start of training camp. In 112 games with the Packers, he had 54 sacks, and at least 9 1/2 sacks in three of his last four seasons. Last year, he had just 3 1/2 sacks before getting hurt. 

Kampman's best run was in 2006-07, when he combined for 27 1/2 sacks. He had a career high 15 1/2 sacks in 2006.
