Former Giants safety Will Hill will play for the Baltimore Ravens this season. Or at least the portion of the season he's allowed to play.

The talented New Jersey native who was waived by the Giants this spring after a third failed drug test in three seasons still will have to sit out the first six games of the 2014 season. The Giants ran out of patience with Hill, who had served four-game suspensions in each of his first two NFL seasons, but on Friday he signed a one-year contract with the Ravens.

Many believe Hill's troubles with marijuana stemmed from living and playing so close to his hometown of West Orange, New Jersey. Last year he said the pressures of his old neighborhood made him use the drug. He has not commented publicly on the latest failed test and suspension since his release from the Giants.

Hill takes the place of another former Giant on the Ravens' roster. Aaron Ross, a one-time first-round pick, tore his Achilles tendon in the team's conditioning test on Thursday.

Both Hill and Ross wore number 31 during their tenures with the Giants (although Hill switched to 28 last year when Ross returned to the team).
