Adrian Tracy: Don't forget about me yet!

In the last day or so we (meaning me and my media buddies) have written a lot about rookie defensive ends Matt Broha and Adewale Ojomo. Some of you may have read those stories.

Adrian Tracy apparently has.

While the Giants were practicing this afternoon, he Tweeted this message: “: All this talk ... Y'all can forget about me if you want to. But don't be surprised when I say "I told you so"

Tracy injured his hamstring in the game against the Jets, one of the many injuries that have allowed Broha and Ojomo to climb the depth chart.

Tracy addressed the situation after practice.

“I’ve been an under the radar guy for a long time,” he said. “These young guys have done stuff to be in the media and they’ve done well and I’m not at all downplaying that, but it always seems to me that when things are really going 100 percent as I had planned that I kind of get overlooked. I’ve worked hard this offseason, I’ve done well in training camp, OTAs, minicamp and preseason that I don’t think I should be tossed to the side that quickly.”

Tracy is in a tricky spot. He’s far from having his roster spot secured as we get close to the cutdown to 53 on Friday. He feels like he’s ready to return to the field and practice and play on Wednesday against the Patriots to help earn that roster spot. And yet the trainers are not letting him while he continues to rehab his hamstring.

“I wouldn’t say I’m not healthy,” Tracy said. “I’m on the path to being healthier. But I feel like there are things that have been done in order to preserve my health. This is not in my control whether or not I play.”

So he has to trust that the trainers and the team are looking out for him.

“I go out and talk to the trainers and they have my best interest in mind,” he said. “Hopefully, come Friday, my best interest is in mind, if you know what I’m saying.

“I feel like personally that I’ll be able to go (on Wednesday),” Tracy added. “Those guys, they’re professionals at what they do, so I trust that they have my best interests in mind … That’s what I’m hoping. That’s what I’m praying.”

I asked Tracy to give me an "elevator pitch" for a spot on the 53, a succinct argument for him to make the team. Here's what he said:

“The biggest thing I can bring to the table right now is just a level of maturity,” the third-year player said. “I understand my role, my position on this team with special teams and being, hopefully, the fourth defensive end if that’s in my future. I understand where I fit in with the defensive line room because there’s a certain chemistry that is in there. And I just personally feel like the work that I’ve put in thus far and the fact that they have kept me on board this long, they have a plan for me. Hopefully I’ll be able to step up to the table and exceed their expectations as well as my own.”

Not a bad elevator ride.
