Damontre Moore's 'wait ... what?' moment: Sack of video-game idol Michael Vick

Damontre Moore came to the Giants bench glad that he had recorded a sack. Then, as he sat there, it began to dawn on him.

"I realized, 'Oh snap, I actually got him and it was a sack? Man, that's Michael Vick, the guy I played with [on video games],' " he said. "It was a little surreal."

That Moore made the sack against the Jets' starting unit (with the exception of Vick in for Geno Smith) also gave the second-year defensive end something to think about. Until Friday night's 35-24 preseason win, all of Moore's sacks had come against second- and third-stringers.

"Not to sound cocky, but I can do that, too," he said of bringing down a quarterback protected by first-team linemen. "It's about going in there whenever my name is called and being ready to go out there and set that tempo. Whoever my opponent is, to humiliate him in the worst way possible and come out with a win. That's me and anyone who is a true competitor. It doesn't matter who you are going against. You go out there and you beat him and you polish him."

Moore finished with two sacks and a recovered fumble that led to a touchdown. Three of his four tackles were for negative yardage. But it's the sack against Vick that will stick in the minds of those who will decide who plays in the regular season.

"For it to come against the ones, at the end of the day, it's a little more gratifying," Moore added. "Other people might be like, 'OK, I seen him do it against the ones, so we might have some faith in him.' But I'm confident in my ability."

So confident that he didn't even realize that the key sack was against a guy he used to control while playing Madden. For a 21-year-old like Moore, Vick is someone he grew up watching.

"During the game, your adrenaline is pumping and you're like, 'I made a play, I don't care who it was against,' " he said. "To get it against a guy you used to play with on Madden and is one of the pioneers of the running quarterbacks? Why not."
