Giants' plans to commemorate franchise's 100th season announced
The Giants have turned 100.
The organization began the celebration Monday with the unveiling of their 100th season logo.
“The entire Mara family is proud to commemorate the 100th season of New York Giants football,” said John Mara, co-owner of the Giants. “As we reflect on this landmark season, I think about my family, and most specifically my father, grandfather and uncle who dedicated their entire lives to the Giants and the NFL. We would not be who we are without their vision and leadership. When we became partners with the Tisch family in 1991, our franchise grew even stronger. Together, the Mara and Tisch families are proud to celebrate the history of our franchise as we look to the future of Giants football.”
The commemorative logo includes a background shield inspired by the shape of the Polo Grounds, the team’s first home in 1925, and with the zeros designed in the outline of Giants Stadium. At the base is a re-creation of the team’s classic skyline logo, representing every player who has worn the Giants uniform. The player is overlaid on a football, which is named “The Duke” in honor of Wellington Mara and features eight laces to symbolize the team’s eight NFL championships.
The logo will be worn on the Giants' gameday uniforms this season.
The signature event to honor the milestone will be “Giants 100: A Night with Legends” at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on June 20. Former players, including Eli Manning and Harry Carson, and former coaches Tom Coughlin and Bill Parcells are expected to attend, according to the team.
“I first saw the Giants play in person in the early 1960s when my father would take me to games at Yankee Stadium,” said Giants co-owner Steve Tisch. “Going to Giants games was a wonderfully magical ritual. It inspired my lifelong love of the Giants. When my father became an equal partner of the Giants in 1991, it was the realization of a longtime dream. Our family has relished our association with the Giants and look forward to many years of success in the future.”
Starting Tuesday, at 10 a.m., Giants season-ticket holders will have an exclusive 48-hour window to purchase tickets before a limited supply will be made available to the general public on Thursday at 10 a.m. on Ticketmaster. Net ticket proceeds from the event will benefit The Giants Foundation, Inc. (“TGF”).
