Giants now working Odell Beckham Jr. into game plan
Odell Beckham Jr. is on the field.
Now the Giants are working on getting the first-round pick into the game plan.
"We're in that phase," Tom Coughlin said of the wide receiver. "What we obviously need to do is to see some hard, back-to-back practices, one after the other, which I expect we'll accomplish this week."
Beckham was on the field for his third straight workout on Wednesday, going through drills and catching passes and punts during the open portion of the practice. He has shown no signs of limitations with the hamstring injury that has kept him from playing since the spring. He appears on track for his NFL debut against the Falcons on Sunday.
"He's been in every meeting," Coughlin said. "I would expect him to know everything. I wouldn't shy away from that. He's demonstrated an ability to handle whatever's thrown at him. He's done that throughout, so I would expect that. Now, under fire with adjustments and signals and things of that nature, we've got to see where we are with regard to that, too."
As a receiver, Beckham has the luxury of not being part of the every-down game plan as he is eased into action. He could be on the field for a handful of snaps and potentially make an impact unlike, say, an offensive lineman. Coughlin said that is a possibility for Beckham.
"But you'd like not to go in with that kind of thinking," he said. "Let's play."
Yes. Let's.
