TWO HANDS ON THE BALL
Giants coach Brian Daboll has given quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney a lot of the credit for Daniel Jones’ so far-so good season when it comes to turnovers. He has only four in seven games – two interceptions and two fumbles.
Asked what the key to Jones’ improvement has been, Tierney said, “This is Daniel’s fourth year (in the NFL), so he’s grown in a lot of areas, not just that, because of his experience.
“What you want to see is taking it from the classroom to the practice field to the games, and he’s done that, whether it’s ball security in the pocket, out of the pocket, or his decision-making. I don’t think it changes whether you are in the pocket or out of the pocket. It’s still two hands on the ball, because you never know what’s around you. You don’t have eyes on the back of your head, so you have to have two hands on the ball at all times.”
TO TRADE OR NOT TO TRADE?
This will be the Giants’ final game before the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, where Daboll and first-year GM Joe Schoen will be faced with potentially adding help for this season while not compromising the future.
“Everything we do here, we try to win the day,” Daboll said on Friday. “Every day we can, come in here, have a good attitude, work hard. There’s obviously long-term stuff, there’s short term stuff.
“I’m focused on short-term getting ready for Seattle and I understand there are other things that go along with that long-term-wise relative to Joe and the decisions that we make together. But it’s real easy, when you’re in the season, your focus is day to day. That’s where mine is at.”
