Plaxico Burress apparently demonstrated something in prison that seldom marked his time with the Giants - good behavior. As such, a state prison spokeswoman made official on Friday that the former Giants receiver will have three months shaved off his two-year prison sentence for gun charges.

Burress will be released June 6, which has long been suspected, and free in time to sign with an NFL team for the upcoming season. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told The Associated Press on Friday that Burress' future is "bright" and that he will be signed by a team upon his release. Burress has missed the last two NFL seasons and will be 34 when the 2011 season begins.

The Giants have been vague about their interest in bringing back Burress but have not ruled it out publicly. They issued a brief statement Friday:

"We are grateful that Plaxico and his wife Tiffany and their children now know when they will be reunited and able to get on with their lives together. As we have stated many times in the past, we feel that day is long overdue."

Despite a sometimes rocky relationship with the rules that Tom Coughlin uses to run the team, Burress had a productive career with the Giants, including the game-winning catch in Super Bowl XLII. He was released from the team several months after accidentally shooting himself in the leg in a Manhattan nightclub in November 2008.
