Jay Glazer presents HOF's Michael Strahan and remembers their friendship

Michael Strahan might just be the most popular television personality going, but that's no surprise to Fox colleague Jay Glazer, who considers Strahan his best friend.

"He has the one thing you can't teach: Everybody at home feels like 'he's talking to me.' He's so inviting," Glazer said.

Glazer started covering the Giants early in Strahan's career and they quickly became friends. The two did an appearance at a New York-based synagogue, long before Strahan became a star player, and Glazer could tell Strahan had the "it" factor.

"I asked [Strahan] to come to a friend's synagogue, and he slayed it," Glazer said. "I looked at him and I'm like, he's amazing. He lit these people up, same way he does today. Never changed. He gets it more than anybody. He's so incredibly driven. I think he'll own an NFL team one day. He has so much stuff going on, and everything he touches turns to gold."

Strahan now is the co-host of "Kelly and Michael," the ABC morning show. He makes regular appearances on ABC's "Good Morning America" and is on the Fox NFL show on Sundays during the NFL season.

Strahan took the rare step of having a media person present him at Saturday night's Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony. It was a touching tribute for Glazer, who said, "It's the greatest moment of my career, for me to be up there with my brother."

Glazer, who started out writing for a weekly publication, said Strahan helped him throughout his career, especially at the start.

"He used to drive me back into Manhattan," Glazer said. "I couldn't afford bus fare back and forth to Giants Stadium. I could only afford a one-way ticket. I used to make him drive me into the city every single day. I was such a knucklehead. Let's say I had a date and he was getting treatment or watching film. I'd say, 'Dude, let's go. I got a date.' He'd say, 'Jay, are you kidding me? Why do I deal with you?' I said, 'I don't know, but you do. We gotta go.' I owe him seven years of Lincoln Tunnel fare."

Glazer said Strahan was especially helpful when the Giants had training camp in Albany.

"I was staying at my cousin's fraternity house in Albany, and it was a burned-out crack house because hadn't taken it over yet. I couldn't afford to stay anywhere at the time, because nobody was paying me. So I go to this house, there's a burned-out couch, the TV's turned over. I got no bedding. I used my clothes as bedding. In the middle of the night, this 6-7 crackhead breaks through the window, and I'm sitting there. I threw an Arizona iced tea bottle at the dude, and he goes back out the window.

"I tell Michael about it, and he gets me a steak knife to protect myself, and takes bedding from the Giants' dorm and smuggles it out and brings it to me. He still owes the Giants $22 in bedding."
