Jim Sorgi feels he needs to push himself for next week
Jim Sorgi might not be ready to play, but he obviously feels like he has no choice.
The backup quarterback who came out of the first exhibition game with a torn anterior capsule in his throwing shoulder said today that his plan is to practice on Monday and play in the preseason finale on Thursday.
“It was one of those things where it was three or four weeks but you can possibly get back in two and it’ll be two weeks on Monday,” Sorgi said. “I have to give them more to look at to help them make their decision. In my mind I feel like I have to play next week.”
Sorgi admitted that he’s still a little worried about his spot on the roster. He and Rhett Bomar seem to be competing for the backup quarterback job and in the last two years the Giants have kept only two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster.
Sorgi said his shoulder is getting a little stronger, but it doesn’t sound like he’s ready to play right now.
“There are some things I can do, there are some things I cant do,” he said. “I’m trying to stay away from things that irritate it, inflame it because you don’t want to set yourself back. Right now another week is bad. Another week would be terrible.
“I’m taking it slowly but surely,” he added. “We have three or four days until hopefully we have to see if we can push this thing a little bit. It’s a little unnerving and a little frustrating. A few sleepless nights. You realize that you have to (play) with the hand you’re dealt and this is my hand right now and I’m going to do the best that I can to get through this.”
