Michael Boley, Martellus Bennett have come up big for Giants

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- They say bad things come in threes. Don't tell that to Michael Boley and Martellus Bennett.

In each of the Giants' first three games, those two players have come up with big plays. Boley has three interceptions, one in each game. And Bennett, the tight end, has a touchdown catch in each contest so far this season.

Boley and Bennett. Like death and taxes.

Boley downplayed his knack for the picks, chuckling at the idea of being an honorary defensive back as the team's leader in interceptions.

"They ran a similar route earlier in the game," he said of his fourth-quarter interception in Thursday's 36-7 win over the Panthers. He credited his plays to "knowing the defense and paying attention to what they're doing on the offensive side."

Bennett, predictably, was less modest.

"I've always felt like I was one of the best at the tight end position, I just never had a chance to really get out there and show it and this is my chance to get out there and show it," the first-year Giant said. Bennett had four touchdowns in four years with the Cowboys, for whom he was a backup behind Jason Witten.

"I want to be mentioned with some of the best in the league, you know, when you talk about guys like Jimmy Graham and Vernon Davis and [Rob Gronkowski). I want to be in that same conversation."
