On the move again? Dome collapse leaves NFL looking for new plan for Giants-Vikes
A tear in the roof of Metrodome that covers Mall of America Field in Minneapolis has caused the roof to deflate and collapse on itself this morning under one of the heaviest amounts of snow to ever hit the Twin Cities area. The development leaves the NFL and the Giants and Vikings – the two teams who had already re-scheduled their game from Sunday to Monday night to accommodate the dangerous amounts of snow on the building – scrambling to figure out where and when to play their game.
One obvious solution could be to move the game to Monday night at New Meadowlands Stadium. The Jets have a game there on Sunday afternoon, but the stadium could be quickly turned around to accommodate the Giants by Monday night.
The Giants were still in Kansas City on Sunday morning, where they have been since their flight was diverted there upon the closing of Minneapolis-St. Paul airport on Saturday afternoon.
There are no reported injuries in the collapse. The Minneapolis Metropolitan Sports Commission chair told CNN this morning that it is “yet to be determined” if the facility can be repaired in time for Monday night.
If the game is moved back to New Meadowlands Stadium, it wouldn't be the first time an out-of-area team played a "home" game in New Jersey. In 2005 the Saints had to play a home game against the Giants at Giants Stadium after the Superdome was damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
