Practice report: Antrel Rolle runs, Spencer Paysinger picks, Henry Hynoski returns

A bit of an abbreviated practice today, about an hour and a half, and most of it was off of cards once again. So here’s your abbreviated practice report:

The big news was that Henry Hynoski came off PUP, but he didn’t wind up doing much more than he had been. About the only difference was he was doing it with the rest of the team and not on a field to the side with the other shunned PUPpies. Speaking of them, only two remain: Jason Pierre-Paul and Markus Kuhn. Obviously the Giants would like to have JPP back by the time they set their roster next weekend, even if he’s not quite ready to play in the opener.

Corey Webster didn’t practice today, but Tom Coughlin had some guarded optimism and made it sound like he’s expected back after the weekend. Also not practicing were three wide receivers (Victor Cruz, Ramses Barden and Louis Murphy), two offensive linemen (David Baas and David Diehl) and DE Damontre Moore.

Wait, aren’t we missing someone? Yes! Antrel Rolle! After spraining his ankle last Monday, Rolle was back on the field with the defense for the first time. He was running some walk-through fits with the first unit while wearing cleats and his helmet with a pair of gloves dangling from his facemask. He was very very very limited, so don’t go thinking he may show up on the field on Saturday. But after he was done with his portion of the practice (he sat out in team drills), he was running sprints across the field.

Just a few notes from the plays since most of it was off cards. Stevie Brown had an interception off the hands of Kevin Hardy on a pass from Ryan Nassib … Fullback Ben Guidugli made a really pretty over-the-shoulder catch on a wheel route down the right sideline with Tyler Sash in coverage … Spencer Paysinger did a nice job sticking his right hand out to deflect a pass from Nassib to Terrell Sinkfield. It was a backhanded deflection, exactly the way you would teach a basketball player to guard a pass, and he wound up catching it after a short tip for his second interception in two days.

Practice ended with a hurry-up drill that saw the second-stringers go against each other. Curtis Painter was the quarterback with 1:05 remaining. His first pass was complete to Ryan Torain out of the backfield, but the umpire had trouble spotting the ball and precious seconds ticked away before the ball was placed for the second-and-5. The clock finally stopped when Jayron Hosley broke up a pass from Painter to Brandon Collins. That came with :38 left. Painter’s next pass was overthrown for Hardy and a really ugly play in which the ball wasn’t really near any receiver. That set up fourth-and-5 with :34 remaining. Painter tried to find Larry Donnell over the middle, but Kyle Bosworth was able to break it up to end the drill and end practice.
