Prince Amukamara still sitting, Marvin Austin gets in the game
Prince Amukamara’s 2012 debut will have to wait. Marvin Austin’s NFL debut will take place.
The top two draft picks in the Giants’ 2011 class, both of whom have been slowed by injuries throughout their short careers, were both hopeful of playing today against the Bucs. Amukamara, who sprained his ankle in the preseason, was ruled inactive by the Giants and will not play. Austin, who has not played in a meaningful game since his junior year at North Carolina in late 2009, will suit up for the Giants for the first time.
With Amukamara out, rookie Jayron Hosley will make his first NFL start. Michael Coe, who started last week, is active and will likely see plenty of playing time in sub packages.
Besides Amukamara, the Giants also have another key defensive contributor sidelined. LB Keith Rivers (hamstring) will not play, leaving many of the snaps to Jacquian Williams. Michael Boley starts.
The other inactives for the Giants are: Jerrel Jernigan, Da’Rel Scott, Adewale Ojomo, James Brewer and Adrien Robinson.
