Rashad feeling better, will have concussion tests this afternoon
Let’s stay on the injury thread for at least one more post and talk about Sha’reff Rashad, who suffered a concussion on the first defensive play of the game Saturday night when he came flying up and crashed into a pile to stop a run.
“I definitely wanted to make an impression as quickly as possible,” Rashad said of getting his first start at safety (thanks to the benching of Antrel Rolle for being late to a meeting). “I guess I paid the price for that.”
The cost is missing today’s practice while he’s having tests done to see how bad the concussion is and when he’ll be able to return to the field. Of course, Rashad didn’t really leave the field after the hit. He stayed on for the rest of the series.
“I think the adrenaline kept me going for a couple of minutes,” he said, although he did look visibly shaken and had to adjust his helmet after the hit. “I was actually able to finish out the series and once I sat down on the sideline is when I realized I was a little out of it. I let the trainers know.
“I was just a little woozy on the sideline,” he said. “They made the decision to play it safe so we’ll go over today and find out what the situation is.”
Both Rashad and running back D.J. Ware suffered concussions in the game and will be examined today. For Ware, it was his second concussion in nine months, something Tom Coughlin said the team was very concerned about. Ware was not in the Giants’ locker room during the media period, nor was he in the locker room after the game on Saturday. Rashad was there both times.
“I feel better, I feel good,” he said. “After a little bit on the sideline (Saturday) I was able to clear up pretty well and by the end of the game I was fine.”
