Report: Chad Jones shifts focus to baseball
Chad Jones is switching to his backup plan.
The former Giants safety who was selected in the third round of the 2010 draft and nearly killed in a horrific auto accident two months later is giving up on a return to football and instead will focus on making it to the big leagues in baseball. Jones was a star pitcher for LSU and was drafted by the Astros out of high school and the Brewers out of college. New Orleans television station WDSU broke the story.
Jones was cut by the Giants last spring when he was unable to pass a physical and get onto the field. Until now he had been continuing on in a comeback to play football and when he spoke with reporters at the Timex Performance Center last year he stressed that he was not thinking about baseball even though it would be a less-strenuous path to return to professional sports.
For a look at Jones’ accident and his comeback, check out the story that Kimberley Martin wrote on him during the 2011 season here. There was also a short film about his comeback efforts that you can see here.
