Ryan Nassib takes some blows, to ego and chin, but he's still standing
What must have been a trying week for Ryan Nassib ended with him leading a pair of touchdown drives and winning the game as the Giants beat the Colts, 27-26, Saturday night at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Playing with the third team after spending the first half of the preseason as the No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart, Nassib didn't let his demotion affect him against the Colts.
He completed 11 of 15 passes for 158 yards in two series, including a 26-yarder down the seam to Adrien Robinson on fourth-and-16 from the Giants' 22, a 33-yarder to Robinson on the next play and the game-winning 4-yarder to Corey Washington with 55 seconds left.
"It didn't really matter to me which team I was going in with, I just wanted to go out there and execute and move the ball and score some points," Nassib said. "The guys all rallied together and we were able to put together a couple of good drives."
The key pass was the 26-yarder to Robinson.
"He ran a great route, found himself in a nice spot in the middle of the field," Nassib said. "He made a couple of great plays down the stretch on that drive. He went up and got it and saved us."
That fourth-down conversion came a play after Nassib was drilled under the chin by linebacker Andy Studebaker.
"I ate one pretty good," he said. "A lot of my teammates take worse hits than that on every play, so I'll be fine."
If nothing else, Nassib proved he can take a hit -- to the jaw or to his ego -- and bounce back.
