Justin Tuck missed a second straight practice because of a toe injury and said he probably won't know if he's available to play until just before kickoff on Sunday.

"I've been doing everything possible to get some relief, strengthen it," Tuck said. "Some things have had positive effects. Some things have had negative effects. Some things have no effect. I still have almost three more days to hopefully find something that works or let this rest and heal a little bit more."

Tuck forlornly walked to the practice field Thursday, his shoulders slumped. But he said people shouldn't read too much into his negative body language.

"I have an old country boy walk anyway, so I don't think it's that much different [than normal]," he said. "But it's a little different."

A toe may sound like an insignificant injury, but it can be very complicated. As Tuck pointed out, Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis missed four games with a toe injury.

Tom Coughlin said he thinks Tuck will practice Friday and defensive coordinator Perry Fewell said he plans on having Tuck on Sunday. So will he play? Tuck doesn't think the decision will be made until Sunday.

Giant stepsDE Osi Umenyiora (ankle) will not play Sunday . . . C David Baas (neck) said he hopes to play again this season but does not have a timetable for a return . . . Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride said backup C Kevin Boothe has been "flat-out outstanding" replacing Baas, but there is some concern about the wayward snaps that flared up on the final drive against the Cowboys. "You don't want to make too big an issue or it becomes a Chuck Knoblauch, can't-throw-from-second-base deal," Gilbride said . . . Redskins S LaRon Landry (Achilles) went on IR.
