Ware just as ready as he was for last opportunity
Once again. D.J. Ware is ready. Now the only question is whether the Giants will use him or not.
With Ahmad Bradshaw suffering from a stress fracture in his foot and likely to miss Sunday’s game against the Patriots at the very least, Ware becomes the natural replacement for him behind big Brandon Jacobs. Of course, when Jacobs was hurt last month, Ware thought he’d get his opportunity then as well. He wound up with nine carries for 22 yards in the two games Jacobs missed.
“You work all week and you don’t know what to expect,” Ware said. “You have that in mind that you might get a little extra action that week and when you don’t it’s a little frustrating. But that’s part of the game. They try to go to whoever is hot and running the ball well. It’s one of those things where you just have to be ready.”
It would seem that Ware would have a better chance of getting on the field more now that Bradshaw is the one hurt. Ware will likely take over the third-down snaps that Bradshaw handled.
“Just be able to pass protect and run routes and give Eli another option out there and try to be on top of my game so he has someone to throw the ball to if there’s nothing open down the field,” Ware said of that role. “Hopefully we can get those dinks and dunks going and steadily go down the field on them.”
No matter how or when they use him, Ware said he is looking forward to getting this latest opportunity … and hoping that it actually is an opportunity.
“As ready as I can be,” he said of his attitude. “I’ve been up early all week getting my mind right and getting ready to go. Hopefully I get more than just a little bit this time and go out there and show those guys what 2-8 is all about.”
