Workout for Hakeem Nicks cut short after he feels tightness in groin
The excitement over Hakeem Nicks being "100 percent healthy," as he told Eli Manning at the start of camp, dimmed a bit Sunday as the star receiver spent the second half of practice on the sideline.
"I guess he got a little tightness in the groin and they held him," Tom Coughlin said after the workout. "I really don't know much about it."
Nicks looked good early in practice, hauling in a long pass from David Carr and accelerating past Corey Webster in a one-on-one drill. Shortly after that, though, he walked off to have his legs looked at by trainers. He did not return to practice, missing most of the 11-on-11 team drills and the 7-on-7 reps.
The injury did not preclude him from one more drill. When Coughlin tried to get more information on the situation after practice, he was shooed away. Along with the rest of the players, Nicks was signing for fans.
Connor contrite
When TSA agents pulled a spring-loaded knife out of linebacker Dan Connor's carry-on bag at Philadelphia International Airport on July 6, he was surprised to see it. He thought he'd lost it a year ago. But his excitement over finding the missing tool was quickly replaced by the realization that he was in trouble for bringing it to the airport. "And then I knew it was going to be a long day," he said.
Connor was charged with possession of an offensive weapon and was released on his own recognizance after a night in custody.
"It's just unfortunate," Connor said of the knife, which was in the bottom of a seldom-used toiletries bag. "But at the same time, it's my fault and I have to prove to everybody that I'm not that type of guy, a guy to get in trouble. It was the first time I've been arrested, so it was pretty embarrassing for me."
