FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – The Jets improved their receiver room in the offseason and now have the chance to really upgrade it.

The Jets are expected to be a frontrunner to acquire Davante Adams, who requested a trade from the Raiders. Adams and Aaron Rodgers are former teammates, remain close and have said they would like to play with each other again.

“We’ll always look at everything, but at the same time we’re locked in on the guys that are here,” Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday. “Those are the guys we’re going to focus on.”

Saleh can’t speak about players from other teams. He was answering questions generically. Rodgers was not available to comment.

The Jets like their starting trio of receivers Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams and Allan Lazard, another ex-Adams teammate. Saleh was asked if he worries about how acquiring someone would impact players in that position group.

“You’re always going to look at ways to help the roster get better,” Saleh said, “whether it’s utilizing the guys that are here and moving them to different spots on the field or different positions.”

The Steelers, Commanders and Saints are among other teams that could be in play for Adams. His former college quarterback and with the Raiders, Derek Carr, is now in New Orleans.

The Jets, who have about $17 million in cap space, can fit Adams into their payroll. He’s owed $13.5 million for the rest of this season, and it lessens by about a million with each game.

“I love Davante,” Lazard said. “He was one of my favorite teammates, one of my biggest mentors and I’m so grateful to be able to share the field with him. The time that we spent in Green Bay together doing the things that we did is something I’ll never forget. As far as the other stuff, I work for the Jets. My mind and sole focus is on the Vikings.”

Adams has 18 catches for 209 yards and a touchdown in three games for the Raiders this season. He was not active last Sunday because of a hamstring injury he suffered in practice.
