Ed Reed joins Showtime's 'Inside the NFL'

Ed Reed finally has found work, but this time it's off the field.

The former Jets and Ravens safety will join Showtime's "Inside the NFL" along with Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall, according to Sports Business Daily.

The news came as a bit of a surprise, considering Reed's desire to continue playing in the NFL. While attending a charity softball game in June, Reed told reporters, "I'm definitely preparing to play." But the future Hall of Famer has yet to crack an NFL roster.

"I'm very excited to be part of the 'Inside the NFL' team this season," Reed said in a statement. "It's an honor to work alongside such an award-winning cast and crew."

After a seven-game stint in Houston, Reed signed with the Jets late last season. His transition was anything but seamless. Three days after he arrived, Reed started in place of second-year safety Antonio Allen. Rex Ryan took heat for the move as Reed struggled in coverage, and Ryan eventually returned Allen to the starting lineup.

Reed, who underwent hip surgery prior to joining the Jets, often was surly with reporters who questioned his diminished level of play. "You guys' job is to critique, be critics," the gray-bearded safety said back in December. "That's what you do. That's why you ask the controversial questions, try to make it controversial, then you trash people in the media. I care less about that. Missed tackles happen. Nobody's perfect."

Now Reed, who turns 36 next month, finds himself on the other side of the camera.

"Inside the NFL" will air Tuesday nights on Showtime and re-air Wednesday on NFL Network.
