Eric Decker has minor hamstring injury but will play in scrimmage
While his fellow receivers were taking part in team drills Friday, Eric Decker was on the opposite practice field, far from the action. The absence of the wideout raised eyebrows, but Jets coach Rex Ryan insisted his hamstring injury isn't serious and that Decker will play in Saturday's Green & White scrimmage.
"It's a little bit of hamstring, but it's not like he pulled the hamstring or anything," Ryan said.
Decker, whom the Jets signed to a five-year, $36.25-million deal in the offseason, began practice in the rehab area before partaking in position drills. He did not address reporters, briskly walking past the media tent after practice.
Geno to start
To no one's surprise, Ryan said Geno Smith will start the intrasquad scrimmage, which will begin at 7:15 p.m. "We'll start with Geno, run him with the first group. But then we'll just kind of go from there," Ryan said, noting that his goal is to get all four quarterbacks in the game.
Though Smith took all of the first-team reps on Thursday, Michael Vick was given two reps with the starters Friday. But regardless of which quarterback gets more playing time Saturday night, it appears the Jets' offense is heading in the right direction.
Stephen Hill burned Dee Milliner on a 60-yard touchdown pass from Smith and Vick connected with Jacoby Ford on a 65-yard TD.
"It was great," Ryan said of the offense bouncing back. "No doubt, we kinda needed that."
Pryor won't change
Safety Calvin Pryor sported a red noncontact jersey for a second straight day, and it's unlikely he'll play in the scrimmage, Ryan said. This is the first concussion for Pryor, who suffered the head injury on punt coverage and not during a kickoff, as he previously told reporters.
Nicknamed "Louisville Slugger," Pryor said he doesn't plan to alter his style of play. "Not at all," he said. "I still have to be myself. I play physical out there and aggressive . . . That hit came from a shot when I wasn't looking. I just have to be aware and play football."
