Woody Johnson says Haason Reddick can seek a trade from Jets

Here’s another twist in the Haason Reddick saga: The Jets gave Reddick’s new agents permission to seek a trade, owner Woody Johnson said at the NFL meetings in Atlanta on Tuesday.
This is an about-face for the Jets as general manager Joe Douglas said in September that the Jets wouldn’t honor Reddick’s trade request.
This has been a bizarre situation from the beginning. The Jets sent a conditional 2026 third-round pick to the Eagles for Reddick in March. He showed up for his physical on April 1 and hasn’t been in the building since.
The two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher has been holding out for a new or reworked contract. He was due $14.25 million this season. But this holdout has cost him about $10 million in fines and forfeited game checks and bonuses.
Reddick was dropped by his agency, CAA, last week, and then hired Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha to represent him.
On Monday, Rosenhaus said they “look forward to working with the Jets to get this resolved as soon as possible. Haason would like to be a New York Jet for years to come and our goal is to make that happen.”
Rosenhaus met with the Jets on Monday and continues to say his client could still play for them.
“You will see Haason Reddick playing football this year, and hopefully it will be with the Jets," Rosenhaus said on “The Facility” on FS1 on Tuesday.
Johnson said he doesn’t know if the Jets will be able to trade Reddick, but he added, “If there’s anybody who can make an argument and explain it to the player I think Rosenhaus can do it. He’s very, very accomplished.”
The Lions are a possible trade partner. They lost star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson on Sunday to a devastating lower leg injury. It will be interesting to see what any team is willing to give up for Reddick, who requested a trade from Philadelphia that led to him being dealt to the Jets.
The Jets also could be looking to move veteran receiver Mike Williams now that they have acquired Davante Adams. Williams could be the odd man out in a receiver room that now features Adams, Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard. Adams and Lazard played with Rodgers in Green Bay.
Williams suffered a head injury at the end of Monday’s 23-20 loss to Buffalo. Williams cleared concussion protocol, interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said.
On the play, Rodgers was picked off when he badly underthrew Williams. Rodgers indicated after the game that Williams ran the wrong route. Rodgers said he “wasn’t calling Mike out” and that he was just answering a question about what happened on that play.
“I wasn’t calling Mike out for anything other than his responsibility and the details on that play,” Rodgers said on “The Pat McAfee Show" Tuesday. “I have a lot of love and respect for Mike. On that play he wasn’t in the right spot. You can make more of that if you want.”
