FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Aaron Rodgers is dealing with a new injury.

Rodgers had been hampered by ankle and knee issues, and how he has a hamstring issue that flared up in Sunday’s loss to Pittsburgh. Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich expects Rodgers to be able to play Sunday against the Patriots, though.

“We’re going to assess it all week long,” Ulbrich said. “He’s going to treat his butt off like he always does. Don’t anticipate this affecting him.”

Rodgers has been sacked 12 times in the last four games.

Xavier Newman on IR

The Jets placed Xavier Newman on injured reserve because of the neck injury he suffered Sunday.

Newman left the field strapped to a backboard and was brought to a Pittsburgh-area hospital for evaluation. He ended up flying home with the team and is feeling much better.

“He’s doing well,” Ulbrich said. “He’s going to need some weeks to recover and get better. But as scary as that [was], thank the Lord that he’s come out on the other side of this thing and he’s in a good place.

“It was a scary, scary moment in the game. Those are the reasons that these connections within our team are so strong and the guys just felt so bad for him and then to find him on the plane after the game is just an amazing blessing.”

More injury news

The Jets should get starting cornerback D.J. Reed back after missing the last game with a groin injury. Ulbrich said Reed would be a full participant in Wednesday’s walk-through. Nickelback Michael Carter II (back) could return from a two-game absence. He was set to be limited.

The safety position is banged up though.

Tony Adams, who left Sunday’s loss with a hamstring injury, is not practicing and may not play this week. Ashtyn Davis remains in the concussion protocol. The Jets placed Chuck Clark on injured reserve last week.

They signed veteran defensive back Jalen Mills to the active roster. Mills played every defensive snap Sunday after being elevated from the practice squad.

Right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker (ankle) did not practice.
