Jets, Steelers provide bulletin-board material

Just because Rex Ryan is out of the business of making guarantees, that doesn't mean players on either side of the Steelers-Jets rivalry will remain quiet.

Both teams delivered verbal blows at one another Wednesday -- although, these shots were far more tamed than anything we've grown accustomed to hearing around here.

When a local reporter reminded Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley that his team hasn't been 0-2 since 2002, he quickly interrupted and said: "And we won't be this year."

When Mike Wallace was asked about facing Darrelle Revis and the rest of the Jets secondary -- arguably the best in the NFL -- the Pittsburgh wideout told the Beaver County Times: "It doesn't matter to me (if it's Revis or Cromartie). I like to see anybody who lines up in my face. I don't care. Whoever it is, it is. I feel we have good guys all over the field, too." 

The Steelers' "Young Money Crew" (yes, that is what Wallace and fellow receivers Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders call themselves) isn't worried about Revis Island or anyone else for that matter.

Said Wallace: "We aren't scared of anybody."

But the self-confidence isn't just spewing from the Steelers camp. Jets safety LaRon Landry is just as secure in himself and the Jets secondary to shut down Pittsburgh in Week 2. 

"We can be as great as we want to be," he said of the Jets defense Wednesday. "I'm not about to turn it into a controversy, but I think we can win over them. I think we have all the pieces that they have -- even better.

"To answer your question, I think we'll pull it off. ...I choose my guys over any of their guys, especially in our defensive scheme."

So is this egotism at its finest? Of course not. Every coach wants his players to go into game day believing -- and expecting -- to whoop the competition.

Now we'll get to see on Sunday which crew -- "Young Money" or the Jets secondary -- can back up its word.
