Gholston: 2010 or bust

Could this be the season the Jets finally get something out of Vernon Gholston?

Rex Ryan is sure acting like it, especially with the way he tossed out the compliments Monday to the Jets' 2008 first-round pick. Gholston, a linebacker his first two seasons who's still trying to shed the "bust" label, has been switched to a defensive end.

That's where Ryan believes Gholston will perform his best, and he praised the way the 6-3, 260-pounder looked in yesterday's practice.

"That's the best day he's had since I've been here," Ryan said. "We'll see. I want to see him string some together. It was almost like, 'Hey, I can do this.' "
