Revis' status remains the same

There has been no change in Darrelle Revis’ status, leaving the Jets with yet another day of uncertainty.

Their cornerback has been cleared for physical activity but no contact. And as of Rex Ryan’s press conference Thursday morning, Revis still hasn’t been cleared to play.

Ryan said he won’t allow the cornerback to fly to his hometown of Pittsburgh for Sunday's game unless the team is assured Revis will be able to play. So that means, one way or another, Revis’ game-time status will be determined before takeoff.

“I would think by Saturday, we better know something, if he’s going or not,” the Jets coach said.

“I know this coach would never put a coach on the field if there was a higher risk of him getting injured,” he added, referring to himself. “There’s no way in heck I’d do it. And I’m sure every coach in the league feels the same way.

Ryan also said “I don’t think so” when asked if there was a chance between now and practice that Revis would be cleared for contact. “My understanding is not live contact, for sure.”

Ryan also is unsure about Jeremy Kerley’s status. The slot receiver – who was named the AFC Special Team Player of the Week – woke up with a stiff lower back on Wednesday and did not practice. The Jets coach said he hadn’t seen Kerley as of yet, but is hoping the wideout/punt returner is able to do more than he did yesterday.

Said Ryan: “He better be. He needs to be able to do more than he did yesterday.” 

The coach said he believes Kerley will be healthy enough to face the Steelers, but added: "It's not like I haven't been wrong in the past.

"But I think he'll be able to play."
