Jets Q&A: Who knocked Cheesehead off Sauce Gardner's head?
Why did Sauce Gardner run off the field wearing a Cheesehead, and who knocked it off his head?
The rookie cornerback was celebrating with some fans and one of them put it on Gardner’s head.
He was running toward the tunnel, but Gardner was going the wrong way. A Jets security guard had to stop him and tell him it was the wrong tunnel. Packers receiver Allen Lazard knocked the Cheesehead off his head, but Gardner said it was all in good fun.
“I’m definitely not going to ever forget this moment,” he said. “This is a tribute to the Jets fans. They put it on my head. I just had to take it and run from it. Running off the field with that Cheesehead, that was a crazy feeling right there. I’m never going to forget that.”
Why was the Jets’ bench flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after a third-down stop?
Robert Saleh said one of the coaches was in the white boundary area that surrounds the field and ran into a referee.
Was Breece Hall’s Lambeau Leap premeditated?
Yes. He said the players talked before the game about jumping into the stands if they got the chance. Braxton Berrios and Will Parks scored the first two touchdowns, but they didn’t do it. When Hall scored on a 34-yard run, he saw some Jets fans and leaped into the crowd.
“Brax got the first one. I don’t think there were any Jets fans on the side when he scored,” Hall said. “So when I scored, I had to do it.”
What was it like for Zach Wilson to talk to Aaron Rodgers after the game?
It meant a lot to Wilson, who idolized Rodgers growing up. It wasn’t the first time they have talked, but it still was “crazy,” he said.
“He was the quarterback I copied everything from, tried to be just like him,” Wilson said. “As ugly a game as that was, he’s a great guy, someone I always studied even through the NFL, someone I tried to be like. Sharing that moment after the game is really cool, just telling him good job. I’d love to sit there and chat with him all day and ask him what he has for me.”
What kind of impact did Quincy Williams and Vinny Curry have?
Both made their presence felt, especially Williams, who missed the previous two games with an ankle injury. The hard-hitting linebacker had a huge game with 14 tackles, eight solo.
Curry, playing his first game as a Jet after being activated Saturday, had three tackles, including one for loss. He missed the first five games with a hamstring injury and all of last season after having his spleen removed because of a rare blood condition.
