Key dates as the NFL season begins
Monday: Free-agent lists distributed to NFL teams at 6 p.m.
Tuesday: Team facilities open. Teams can start negotiating with free agents, but contracts can’t be signed until Friday at 6 p.m. Draft picks and undrafted free agents can sign contracts with teams. Trade discussions can begin, but can’t officially take place until Friday at 6 p.m. Rosters can expand to 90 players.
Wednesday: Training camps open with 10 teams reporting.
Thursday: Training camps open with another 10 teams reporting, including the Giants. Teams can begin to cut players from their rosters at 4 p.m.
Friday: Giants officially open their training camp, 10 other teams report for training camp; Contracts with free agents can be signed and trades can officially take place starting at 6 p.m.
Saturday: Jets and Houston Texans report to training camp.
Sunday: Jets and Houston Texans open their training camps.
Aug. 4: The league year begins if the CBA has been ratified by the NFLPA, which first must re-establish itself as a union. All clubs must be under the salary cap.
Aug. 13: Preseason, Giants at Carolina, 8 p.m.
Aug. 15: Preseason, Jets at Houston, 8:30 p.m.
