Bucs defensive back Ronde Barber has decided to retire, according to Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer.

It's not an altogether surprising decision, since Barber's status was in question after the 2012 season. It became even more evident that the Bucs didn't foresee Barber as a major contributor after they signed 49ers free agent safety Dashon Goldson and traded for Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis.

Barber, 38, played 16 seasons in the NFL. His twin brother, Tiki, was a 10-year running back for the Giants. Tiki Barber retired after the 2006 season.

A five-time Pro Bowler, Barber finished with 47 interceptions, 205 passes defensed, 28 sacks and 16 forced fumbles in 241 games. He is the Bucs' career leader in interceptions and defensive touchdown returns (eight).

Barber may best be remembered for his 92-yard interception return that clinched Tampa's 27-10 win over the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. The Bucs went on to beat the Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII.
