RIP Andy Robustelli
Former Giants defensive end Andy Robustelli, a Hall of Famer who helped the team win the NFL Championship in 1956, died this morning in his hometown of Stamford, Conn., according to the Stamford Advocate. Robustelli was 85.
Robustelli began his career with the Rams in 1951 and won an NFL title in his rookie season. He was traded to the Giants after the 1955 season, and helped the team win the championship in his first season in New York. It would be the Giants' last NFL championship until they won Super Bowl XXI after the 1986 season.
Robustelli was a 19th round pick of the Rams in 1951, and went on to become a seven-time Pro Bowler and six-time first-team All Pro. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971.
