Suh suspended, Del Rio fired
The morning isn't even over, but already there's plenty of big news in the NFL.
Earlier today, the Jaguars fired head coach Jack Del Rio after eight-plus seasons on the job. Team owner Wayne Weaver had warned that there would be a coaching change if the Jags didn't make the playoffs, although it was a mild surprise the move came with five games left to play. Defensive coordinator Mel Tucker has replaced Del Rio on an interim basis.
And the league has informed the Lions that defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, who stomped on Packers guard Evan Dietrich-Smith's arm in the third quarter of a Thanksgiving Day loss, has been suspended two games. The news was first reported by FoxSports.com's Jay Glazer.
Suh was ejected from the game and said afterward he wasn't stepping on Dietrich-Smith's arm, but merely trying to get away from the situation. Replays clearly, showed, however, that Suh did step on his arm.
Suh can appeal the fine, and an expedited hearing would be held this week, according to the league.
UPDATE: Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter report that the Jaguars have informed their employees that the team will be sold, but will remain in Jacksonville. Yep, slow news day in Jax.
